The Tired Man and Saxe: new chairs By Lassen Spring 2015

When we visited Copenhagen mid January we had the pleasure to bring a flash visit to the By Lassen showroom to get a sneak peek of the new products for the coming season.
Although most of the furniture in the showroom was on its way to Paris for Maison & Objet, there was some news left behind.

Following the huge success of the auctioned original chairs designed by Fleming Lassen, 'The Tired Man' (1935) was brought back into production. And there was a Tired Man we could try out. Even though the chair may look a bit old fashioned it looks welcoming and cozy at the same time. And it is extremely comfortable to sit in. The chair surrounds you, yes hugs you. It was a true 'WOW' moment. It made me feel like I was 6 years old and back on my grandpa's lap.

More contemporary looking but nevertheless a classic design by Mogens Lassen is Saxe. Saxe is a folding chair with a wooden frame and a leather seat. It was designed in 1955 for The Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition. True craftsmanship is revealed in the gently curved wooden legs and the meticulous stitching of the leather, The details make this chair a small piece of art and a must have new classic icon.
2015, the chair's 60's anniversary, is a perfect year to re-introduce the chair. It comes in 3 versions.

Copenhagen hotel tip: Hotel SP34

There is so much to blog about after a weekend in Copenhagen: new collections, impressions and hot addresses!
We stayed at the Hotel SP34, a boutique hotel in Copenhagen's Latin Quarter, close to the city centre and Tivoli. The hotel has been renovated recently and the lobby and bar are very cozy with a mix of Copenhagen x New York retro glamour. Between 5 and 6 pm they have the popular Wine Hour and offer a free glass of wine to guests. We enjoyed that in the small library opposite the lobby.
On the outside of the hotel the first signs of Spring were visible because of the small pots with spring bulbs that were hanging from the windows.
If you plan to stay at SP34 do book a dinner at Restaurant Höst or Radio (or both). Both restaurants serve top New Nordic cuisine and are situated within walking distance of the hotel.

Behind the scenes: Menu Spring 2015 at northmodern fair

Menu's Spring news premiered last Sunday in, where else, Copenhagen. Menu had a fabulous stand at the northmodern fair.
I had been looking forward to see the new Tribeca lighting series, designed by Søren Rose, a Danish designer based in New York. And boy, I was not disappointed! The whole ceiling was covered in the most spectacular design of the series, the Franklin chandelier. Made in matt brass and black steel.

We were introduced to all the new designs for the coming season and it was stunning and overwhelming. What a great amount of new designs, all musthaves for your wish list. In one of the next postings on this blog you will see more of the new products.

Nordic Inspiration: Marie von Lotzbeck's family home

Jewellery designer Marie van Lotzbeck lives in a former 'ruin' on the Danish country side near Humlebaek (North Sealand). Together with her husband she created a simple but vey pleasant family home.

Preview Ferm Living Spring 2015

Today the new collection by Ferm Living was announced!
This is always one of the most exciting collections to look forward to: what colours did they chose and what materials? How did they style it?

Good news; Ferm Living introduces their first outdoor collection with wonderful plant pots and 'plant walls'. Also suitable for the smaller garden.
Plants play an important role in the collection and if you haven't got any cacti in your home yet, don't worry, the trend isn't over yet! Ferm Living shows how you can style them.

Royal blue is seen throughout the collection to freshen up the muted pinks, mustard yellow, aubergine and grey.
New prints are 'Cut' (on cushions and bed spreads) and 'Stamp' (on teatowels and napkins).
Brass is a stayer and if you haven't introduced this material into your own home yet, it's definitely worth a try. Ferm Living's design are my absolute favourites not only because of their simple and straight form but also because of the warmth and matt finish of the material.

Enough said, here are the images!

You can view the entire collection in Ferm Living's catalogue for Spring 2015.

News Hagedornhagen Spring 2015

Most of you will be familiar with the butterfly and bug art prints by Hagedornhagen from Denmark.
This seasons the company sticks to that theme, but has put the bugs in a different perspective.
I very much like the new Speculo series, a kaleidoscopic image formed by butterflies or bugs.

This is HHC, a new series made with designer Emil H. Hagedornhagen's website says it's also the first step to a new clothing brand, HHC.

Finally, they made 3 art prints in black and white with silver foil. It's hard to see on the image, but you can rest assure the effect will be stunning.

Next week I will be able to see the new prints live at Northmodern fair in Copenhagen and in February at ShowUp in Amsterdam, and then they will be available at Nordic Blends online store soon. Will try to find out more about the clothing brand!
